HTC One to Be HTC’s Only “One” Device in 2013

HTC One was announced as that company’s newest flagship smartphone last week. Around this time last year though, the Taiwanese company released an entire range of One devices – the One X, One S, and One V. Those have been joined in the meantime by a few others, such as the One X+, One SV or One VX. In 2012, the idea seemed to be that One would be HTC’s Galaxy, so to speak.
However, year of 2013, things will be different. According to Phil Roberson, the head of HTC for the UK and Ireland, says, “We just said, let’s just create one flagship device for this year,” which means the HTC One will be the only “One”, and it will be the only smartphone under the One branding in 2013.
So no more “range” – if you’re looking for a high-end HTC Android smartphone, the One is the only “One”. The strategy would be similar to what Apple doing as the company only releases a singular flagship model a year.
When it launched its One series last year, HTC promised to focus on releasing less devices – we were led to believe that those three would be the only ones. And they definitely weren’t, being followed on the market by an onslaught of others. So will things really be different this year? We’ll have to wait and see, and will keep you updated.
